We stopped here on our way to Manly beach for a quick lunch. The fried rice and green Thai curry were both good. The family run vibe was great and the pricing was quite economical.

I feel conflicted about writing this review, because I saw a family working hard for their restaurant, but I also feel like I need to share my experience. We left feeling not very happy, and the visit was full of communication problems. We ordered chicken satay, duck wontons and pork belly baos for starters. The chicken satay was a bit dry but a generous portion, no problem there. The filled duck wonton was a bit misleading, since it was rather flat fried wonton wrapper with duck salad on it, but it tasted good and was an interesting take on the dish, no complaints. The pork belly baos is where things started to go wrong. One of the baos wasn’t steamed properly and the bottom of it was hard and dry. The pork belly slices were big, but they were a bit tough and the skin was very hard. We mentioned about the bao not being cooked when picking up plates, but I’m not sure if we were understood since they just smiled. For the main courses, the pad thai was excellent and the cashew nut stir fry was quite good although a bit salty. Crying tiger was also excellently cooked and tender, although not at all charred, and we enjoyed it. However, we had ordered the chef’s recommendation crispy pork belly with chilli paste, and this one was practically unedible. Many of the pork belly bits were rock hard and we couldn’t pierce them with fork nor chew them, they just crumbled. We left most of the dish on the plate because we just couldn’t eat it despite our attempts. Finally, we finished the meal with the mango sticky rice, and although the mango wasn’t very ripe, it was overall good and we were happy with it. Didn’t mind that it looked quite different from the photo and had only one mango piece. When I went to pay, I wanted to tell them about the pork belly not being good, since I don’t remember the last time we couldn’t finish a dish. Since we ordered two dishes with pork belly and both of them had issues, it’s important to let them know that they might want to do a new batch of crispy pork belly before serving more of it. The lady, who I believe is the owner, seemed a bit offended when I said it wasn’t good. I wasn’t sure if she understood me, so I took the dish and showed that a fork can’t pierce the meat. The response I got was just ”I see I fix this”, and they asked me to pay. I didn’t understand what just happened, so I asked for the receipt. At this point the lady was visibly annoyed about it, gave me my receipt and said ”I already removed this for you”. I was very happy with some of the dishes, but wanted to let them know that some were just not good. And we’re usually fans of crispy pork belly, that’s why we ordered it in two dishes in the first place. I didn’t want a refund, I just wanted a small apology and a confirmation that another customer won’t get the same experience. Instead I got my money back for the dish, with a slightly hostile attitude. Running a restaurant with just 3 people is tough, but that’s no excuse for the response to well meaning feedback. I’d strongly recommend this restaurant to stick to the traditional thai dishes that they know how to do well, and skip the fusion part and more exotic ones, definitely wouldn’t add them to chef’s recommendations. If we had stuck to our standard thai restaurant order, I don’t think we would’ve had any issues. At the end I was made to feel like I’m the problem, but reflecting on the experience, it was definitely the food that was the issue. Based on this experience, I doubt we’ll pay a visit again.

Lunch for $12, set meal for $17 is UNREAL! Not only they are competitively priced in SYD moreover in Manly, the quality and serving was not compromised. Food was authentic and sinfully D-E-L-I-C-I-O-U-S except a tad salty to my taste. Thais are known for their warm hospitality and this is what you can expect here too. This has to be the best hole in the wall joints in Australia. Will undoubtedly return for more…
